Detroit and Windsor CMA Recognize Vital Role Played by Local Industry Leaders

9 July 2003

n July 23, 2003 Casino Windsor's former top boss, Bobby Yee, will present the keynote speech at the Third Annual DetroitWindsor Casino Management Association Chapters Awards Dinner. At the event the CMA will recognize representatives from each of the four Detroit/Windsor area casinos for their efforts in advancing diversity initiatives at their respective casinos. In addition, 120 casino managers, industry suppliers and media representatives will be recognized for completing the Chapter's Certification Series.

The Awards Dinner, to be held at the Ponchartrain Hotel in downtown Detroit is the only event that brings together the casino industry leaders of the Detroit/Windsor market. This year's keynote, will be given by Bobby Yee, President of Paris Las Vegas and Bally's Las Vegas. Mr. Yee served as President and CEO of Casino Windsor since 1998 until 2003 when he was tapped by Park Place Entertainment to take over Paris and Bally's in Las Vegas. Mr. Yee will be presented with the Chapter's Industry Leadership Award at the Dinner. The Award was last presented in 2001 to Mr. Glenn Schaffer, CFO of Mandalay Resort Group, which operates to MotorCity Casino in Detroit and several casinos across the United States.

Also at the Awards Dinner, the CMA will recognize five individuals from, Casino Windsor, Greektown Casino, MGM Grand Detroit Casino and MotorCity Casino, for their role in improving the awareness of diversity within the gaming industry. At a time when the United States and Canada are becoming ever more representative of the world population it is important for all segments of the business and entertainment industries to educate their employees on the importance of diversity awareness. The four area properties have contributed considerable resources on the diversity issue and are a role model for other industries. Robert Russell, CMA Chapter President and Gaming Analyst with the Fraser Trebilcock Davis & Dunlap law firm, said the Detroit and Windsor casino operators should be commended for their commitment to diversity training and the CMA Chapter is honored to recognize each operator. The DetroitWindsor market is a successful region for not only its fantastic casino facilities, but also for its proactive corporate leadership and the 2003 Visionary Awards illustrates just one way in which the operators are improving corporate culture in the U.S. and Canada.

CMA will also recognize the 120 graduates of the Fall 2002 and Spring 2003 Certification Series. Graduates include top managers of the Detroit and Windsor casino operations, media and industry suppliers. The graduates completed a series of educational programs addressing: 1) slot gaming trends, 2) public relations, 3) licensing, 4) responsible gaming education and 5) guest relations.

Gold Sponsors of the Awards Dinner include: 1) Casino Windsor; 2) Greektown Casino; 3) MGM Grand Detroit Casino and 4) MotorCity Casino.

The DetroitWindsor CMA Chapter is the first Chapter to form outside of Nevada and has graduated 300 DetroitWindsor gaming industry professionals from its bi-annual Certification Series. The DetroitWindsor Chapter was formed to provide networking and educational opportunities to gaming industry professionals in the Detroit/Windsor region.
